Applications of Electrochemical Technology and the Road to Reality; A Journey of Electrochemical Engineering
Electrochemical technologies have wide spread applications in various industries, especially in microelectronics and battery industries. They cover batteries, corrosion, electroplating, surface treatment, etching, energy storage, chemical production, green energy and other fields. In the presentation several cases are to be given and discussed.
Three cases regarding the electrochemical transport are also presented. The first case is one- and two-dimensional mass transfer at a rotating or stationary disk electrode with an external forced convective flow. The mass transfer with radial diffusion is compared to the traditional one-dimensional mass transfer for pure rotating-disk flow. The effect of radial diffusion is significant at low Reynolds numbers. The second case is the electro-remediation of metal contaminated soils. The measured electro-osmotic permeability would ascend with increasing pH. The third case is the two-scale mathematical modeling of lithium cell, in which vacancy effect is considered in the solid-state diffusion. The governing equations regarding the diffusion of lithium ions in the liquid phase of porous electrodes, Ohm’s law for a solid matrix and a liquid phase, electrochemical kinetics at positive and negative electrodes, and solid-state diffusion within electrode particles. The lithiation/delithiation of lithium atoms or ions is essential in the charge-discharge of a lithium battery. Besides, several issues related to electrochemical phenomena will also be presented.
